Regular abstract submission: 18 October - 26 November 2021 at 15:59 CET.
No alterations or revisions can be made to submitted abstracts once the review process has started on 1 December 2021 at 17:00 CET
Late regular and late-breaker abstract submission: 2 - 16 February 2022 at 15:59 CET
No extension is possible to the late regular and late breaker abstract submission deadline
Please note: Submission of an abstract for ECCMID 2022 indicates your consent for the abstract to be available within the congress literature (electronic and in print). The submitted abstract should be based on novel data that has not been previously presented or published. The ECCMID Programme Committee reserves the right to reject the presentation of abstract material at ECCMID 2022 if the same data have been published in an international journal more than six weeks before the congress.
NOTE: this rule does not apply to posted pre-prints.
We acknowledge that during COVID-19 time papers publication is commonly expedited and difficult to predict. If the abstract materials have been submitted for publication, accepted, and published in a scientific journal between ECCMID abstract submission and the congress, we expect authors to ensure that data presented during the congress are updated or new angles are presented to avoid redundancies and duplications of already published information.

Abstract type
Abstracts should fall into one of two selectable categories:
- Research abstract
- Case report/series
If ‘case report’ is selected, the template sections:
Background/Materials/Results/Conclusions
will be automatically replaced by the sections:
Background/Case(s) description/ Discussion
Authors
Please double check correct spelling and formatting of the author(s) names and affiliation(s). Please use appropriate capitalisation and punctuation.
Please note that the submitter cannot edit names and affiliations once the submission is completed. Therefore, the ESCMID office needs to be contacted for any changes to submitted abstracts.
ESCMID takes no responsibility for errors in either author or affiliation information.
Text
ALL CAPS for text (other than abbreviations or acronyms) are not allowed. The abstract text cannot be longer than a maximum of 350 words.
Title
Abstract title should be concise and must be submitted in line with scientific rules. This applies to special characters and words that need to be CAPITALISED or italicised.
Abstract titles in ALL CAPS (other than abbreviations or acronyms) or containing brand names are not allowed. Titles will be proofread and adjusted without change of the content to fit the ESCMID guidelines if necessary.

Abstract body
Use the provided fields to draft your abstract. The text of the entire abstract must not exceed 350 words. Please ensure that the different sections of your abstract are entered into the appropriate textbox. For research abstracts, briefly state the background, context of research, and its goals.
The Methods section should provide minimum required information on the research setting, data collection, and analytical methods.
The results presented in the abstract should be original, not published or presented previously.
For case report/series (usually featuring a single instructive case or a series of up to 10-15 cases) emphasise the unique aspects of the case and discuss the learning points emerging from the case(s).
Abstracts stating that data will only be presented or discussed at ECCMID cannot be accepted.
Pictures/Graphs/Tables
Please use the figure upload fields at the bottom to select up to 3 images.
Accepted formats: JPEG or PNG. Size: 1000x1000 pixels max. File size: up to 5 MB. Images larger than provided dimensions will be automatically resized to an A4 format in your submission confirmation. However, reviewers will have access to both the original image and the resized one.
Figure sections can be used to upload images, graphs, or tables. Please note that table inserted in the text field of the abstract will contribute towards the word count. Therefore, to avoid exceeding the number of words counts, we advise you to upload the table as an image file.
Please double-check the readability of uploaded materials.
Spelling guidelines
Use British English spelling throughout. The International System of Units (SI) should be used wherever appropriate. Genus and species names should be written in full as the first mentioned and abbreviated subsequently.
The following scientific rules apply (examples in brackets):
- Systematic names (genus, family, and higher orders): capitalized (e.g., Chlamydia, Enterobacterales, Picornaviridae)
- Non-English expressions in English texts are written in italics (e.g., force majeure, in vitro/in vivo, ad hoc, ex officio)
- Taxonomic names must be italicised (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium difficile)
- Non-systematic names (e.g., plural): lower case and not italicized (group A streptococci, mycobacteria, chlamydiae)
- Generic drug names: lower case (e.g, penicillin)
- Do not use brand names in titles; product names are allowed, but should be avoided in the title
- Please follow standard English grammar rules including a space after full stops and commas
- Only common abbreviations may be used without definition

Please choose the best-fitting abstract topic to ensure a sound and fair review by the most suitable reviewing expert.
It is possible (but not mandatory), specify a second category, if you feel that your abstract does not fit within a single category.
Keywords
Authors are asked to enter three keywords to better define the abstract content.
Submit your abstract
You can save your abstract at any time. Please make sure to fill all fields correctly before final submission. Changes in the abstract are not possible after submission. After submission, a confirmation by email will be sent to the submitter (please make sure to state your correct email address!). All co-authors will be notified by email and will receive a copy of the submitted abstract. The submitter is responsible for obtaining permission for submission and presentation of the abstract from all co-authors and any relevant stakeholders. All correspondence regarding acceptance or rejection, including further information on the mode of presentation etc. will be sent to the presenting author. In case an abstract will be rejected as an oral presentation, its possibility to be accepted as a poster still remains. If so, the authors will be informed via e-mail.
Should you decide to change the type of abstract once you have started the submission, please withdraw your current abstract and re-start the submission process with new content.

Certification
Please ensure that all author names are correct upon submission. It is the responsibility of the presenting author to ensure that this is kept up to date, in case of changes. Following ECCMID, a certificate of presentation will be sent to the presenting author only. The presenting author is then responsible for disseminating this certificate amongst any co-authors.
Certificates will not be awarded to authors that are not present during their poster session at ECCMID, or whose posters do not comply with the requirements for size and format. For those with an oral presentation, the presentation slides must be uploaded to the online system by the specified deadline, as well as presented, in order for a certificate to be awarded.
